Are These Your Symptoms?

Carpal tunnel syndrome affects 3–6% of Australian adults. Many people put up with the pain for years without knowing relief is available — and now, potentially free.

Numbness & Tingling

Pins and needles in the thumb, index, middle or ring finger — especially at night or first thing in the morning.

Wrist Pain

Persistent aching or sharp pain in the wrist that may travel up the arm, often worse after repetitive tasks or typing.

Weak Grip

Dropping objects, struggling to grip items, difficulty with buttons or fine motor tasks like writing.

Burning Sensation

A burning or electric-shock feeling radiating from the wrist into the fingers, often triggered by specific movements.

Night-Time Disruption

Waking up in pain or with numb hands — needing to shake or flex your wrist to restore feeling.

Even if you're unsure, apply for a free eligibility check. Our nurses can help diagnose what you're experiencing.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome affects around 3-6% of the adult population in Australia. It is more common in certain occupational groups, such as those who perform repetitive hand movements or work with vibrating tools.

Additionally, it tends to be more prevalent among women, particularly during pregnancy and menopause.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome arises as a nerve entrapment condition resulting from the compression of the median nerve at the wrist. This crucial nerve travels through a tight channel known as the carpal tunnel where the forearm meets the hand.

The compression often leads to discomfort, tingling, and altered sensations in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and the side of the ring finger closest to the thumb.

As symptoms worsen patients often get pain and pins-and-needles during sleep, together with clumsiness and weakness of the fingers and thumb. If symptoms progress it can result in constant pain and weakness and without treatment the median nerve can be permanently damaged.

A clearer alternative to high-cost treatment pathways

This section helps users compare the emotional and financial difference between the standard path they expect and the more accessible path being offered here.

Traditional surgical pathway
Access Carpal Care pathway
Often high upfront cost
Funding support may be available for eligible patients
May feel harder to access
Built around a simpler enquiry and screening process
Not always financially realistic
Designed for patients where cost is a major barrier
Standard hospital or surgical pathway
Minimally invasive pathway for suitable cases

The Procedure

The micro-invasive procedure involves gently releasing the transverse ligament in the carpal tunnel, using a special tool guided by modern imaging technology.

This technique causes very little harm to the surrounding tissue and gently releases the pressure on the median nerve in the wrist which causes the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.

No stitches are required and the procedure is performed as a walk-in / walk-out service with no general anaesthetic needed.

The Treatment Process

1. Initial Evaluation

2. Local Anaesthesia

3. Image Guidance

4. Carpal Tunnel Release

5. Recovery & Follow up

Frequently Asked Questions

Still unsure? Here are the most common questions from people who enquired about the funded procedure.

Yes — for eligible patients, the CarpalFree Foundation covers the full cost of the micro-invasive carpal tunnel procedure. The Foundation partners with specialist clinics and provides funding grants to people who qualify based on financial need and medical assessment. Not everyone will qualify, but we encourage you to apply — it costs nothing and carries no obligation.

The procedure uses a small needle-sized instrument guided by live ultrasound imaging to gently release the transverse carpal ligament in your wrist — relieving pressure on the median nerve that causes carpal tunnel symptoms. Unlike traditional open surgery, there is no scalpel, no stitches, and no general anaesthetic. You walk in and walk out on the same day, and most patients return to work the next day.

Common symptoms include tingling or numbness in your fingers (especially thumb, index and middle finger), pain in your wrist or hand, weakness in your grip, and waking up at night with pain or pins-and-needles. If you're unsure, our nursing team will help assess your symptoms during a free phone consultation. You don't need a formal diagnosis to enquire.

The micro-invasive technique has been performed for over 10 years with 500+ procedures completed. It carries significantly lower risk than traditional open surgery — there's less risk of infection, nerve damage, and scarring. The procedure is performed by certified medical professionals using live ultrasound guidance for precision and safety. As with any medical procedure, individual outcomes can vary.

After submitting your enquiry, our team will contact you within one business day. If you're assessed as eligible during the nursing call, your consultation and procedure can typically be scheduled within a few weeks depending on location and availability. For interstate patients, we can arrange accommodation.
